The most popular semi-permanent hair extension method: Tape in extensions! Tape in extensions add the perfect amount of length, fullness and thickness while being one of the best methods to hide breakage caused by over processing and bad haircuts.
What are tape in extensions?
Tape in extensions are one of the most common and popular hair extension method available today. Each panel of tape in hair is backed with a clear medical grade adhesive that does not open, slide out or cause damage to natural adhered hair during wear. This method is ideal for those looking for complete transformations, long and thick or short and natural. This method is great for those looking to hide chemical breakage and a bad haircut as they lay so seamless and can be applied in more areas versus the hand-tied weft.
How are they applied?
An experienced stylist will apply a pre-determined amount of tape ins in a bricklayer pattern made of perfectly sectioned rows. A equal amount of hair is sectioned and "sandwiched" between two tape in extension panels. You can expect application to take anywhere between 1-2 hours depending on how many tape ins are used. This method does not require any heat or chemicals during installation. Included in every hair extension install appointment is a complimentary cut and blend of your new extensions to ensure you leave with seamless and beautiful hair.
How are they maintained?
Similar to most other extensions, you will need maintenance appointments every 5 to 8 weeks (dependant on how fast your hair grows). At these appointments your stylist will remove the extensions at one appointment with you needing to return at a different appointment to reapply the same extension hair (they are washed, re-taped and reused) and touch up your cut for blending. This particular maintenance regime works well for the majority of clients because it gives you a hair extension free period to get colour/highlights done in between. Products with sulfates/oils in them are highly discouraged from being used when tape extensions are applied due to drying out the hair and reducing the lifespan of the tape tabs causing breakdown.
What is the hair lifespan?
Tape in extension lifespan varies on multiple factors such as hair quality chosen, at home maintenance and following professional maintenance schedule.
Can they be worn in a ponytail?
In most clients ponytails and top knots are possible if the tape in panels are applied farther back from the hair line. In restorative cases such as hiding bleach damage, hiding broken front bang areas this may not be possible as you have no healthy thick hair to hide them in these areas. Tapes would be the most suitable for alleviating these concerns vs hand-tied methods because they can get into hard to reach areas.
How much do they cost?
Tape in extensions are a completely customized approach and require a thorough consultation to determine the amount of tape in extensions needed, your length goal and the condition/type of natural hair you are starting with. The thicker your natural hair the more tapes are needed to blend your heavy weight line at the bottom. The longer length you go in relation to your natural hair expect to need more than average tapes to avoid the dreaded "thin end/stringy" look. If any customizations are required ombre, root melts or hand painted colour this may increase the cost. An average standard line of 18 inch tape in extension length+volume set is $495, while opting for a professional salon grade line like Bellami Pro will start at $795. Colour matching and customizations
Working with quality brands allows us to be able to custom fit your length and colour; including ombre tones to ensure a perfect match rendering the extensions undetectable. The invisible tape in extensions allow for complete customization and rooting, colouring with no plastic tape tab like the traditional tape in extension. If we cannot find a tone that works for you, custom colouring is an additional option.
